What we forget in fundraising events

What we forget that in many of these fund raising events, lotteries, or galas, is that little of the entire ticket price ends up at the front lines.

For a $150 ticket to a gala dinner probably sees $50 or less go to the group, that then has to be used for the organizations staff time and effort in working on the event. It does not cover the immense amount of time used up by volunteers too.

The big lotteries are in the same boat.

If you supposedly support a group or cause, call them up and send them a check for $150 directly.

There is a big difference between someone who does the above, and a person who goes to a gala. The latter probably has little connection to the cause, other than being out at a good party.
